Become an UMMA Intern
The Urban Muslim Minority Alliance (UMMA) Center internship program is designed to provide college students and/or recent college graduates with a deeper understanding of the organization's grassroots approach to social justice, education empowerment and community outreach. Interns will have an opportunity to work with non-profit professionals on a range of community issues and projects. Positions are open to students currently enrolled in undergraduate and graduate studies or recent graduates. Students interested in receiving class credit should contact their academic or career counseling department directly for more information. Please be mindful that registration deadlines vary from university to university.
The following internships are available:
Annual Fund Raising Dinner Chair
Join the UMMA Center as they plan their largest event of the year. Candidates must be very organized, have great people skills, and be able to multi-task. Event planning and fundraising experience necessary.
Google Ads and Web Optimization
With their prestigious Google Grant, UMMA has the opportunity to freely advertise the center’s programs and services online through Google Web Search Engine. Candidate must have knowledge of Search Engine Optimization and working knowledge of the web.
UMMA Newsletter Internship
UMMA’s quarterly newsletter keeps the community, donors and staff up to date on UMMA happenings and accomplishments.
Social Media Internship
Help UMMA connect with the new age through Facebook, twitter, and other social networking sites. Create a campaign to utilize these sources.
DEVELOPMENT & TRAINING
UMMA seeks to train and cultivate dynamic and talented individuals who are committed to social change and service in the underserved areas of Lake County, primarily the cities of Waukegan and North Chicago. All interns receive ongoing mentorship and training throughout their time with the UMMA Center. Your supervisor will oversee your work, help identify project goals, and support your professional development.
UMMA internships generally run between the following months:
- Winter/Spring: January – May
- Summer: May – September
- Fall: September – December
All internships are unpaid. Positions require a minimum 15-hour/week commitment and time requirements are subject to vary by position.
